The Space Jockey in Alien is distinctly different to the engineer. This might even have further implications - for example the engineers tried to continue creating 'the perfect organism' in their own image, creating humans, however the Space Jockeys abandoned that idea/focused on their true perfect organism - the xenomorph.It became LV 426's smartest and dumbest organism, because it was all alone.
